Camp Stevens offers two Environmental Education programs: Environmental Stewardship Education (Grades 5-8) Our Environmental Stewardship Education program offers a unique opportunity for children in grades 5-8 to establish a positive and personal relationship with the environment, deepening their appreciation and curiosity for our world. Our curriculum is designed to actively utilize all of our resources including 256 acres of chaparral wilderness, two organic gardens, a creative and engaging staff and dynamic hands-on lessons built to enrich, educate, and inspire students. Activities can be tailored to each classroom’s specific academic standards and learning styles. A typical day begin Exploration groups are lead by two experienced staff members who plan and facilitate the majority of the lessons and activities. During exploration time, instructors lead hikes, nature awareness activities, environmental science lessons, garden and compost workshops, personal reflection, and group discussions. The small size of the groups allows the instructors quality opportunities to interact with the students individually and answer questions effectively. Evening programs are an opportunity for the students to connect with themselves, others and nature. Themes and activities include fire building, astronomy, outdoor cooking, campfires, sunset hikes, folk dancing, social awareness programs, night sensory activities and, of course, s’mores! Each evening ends with a Community Gathering where student have a chance to wrap up the day together with songs and stories. 2011-2012 Rates (per person) For every 15 students, one teacher or chaperone may attend for free.
