wmsfamilybkpk08-201A trip exclusively for Women!
July 12-20, 2012

Basecamp: Dingleberry Lake area, John Muir Wilderness, Bishop, CA

A trip exclusively for women! Join with other adventurous women who are avid hikers and walkers to explore one wild area in depth and return to the same wilderness camp each night. This is a special time for spiritual refreshment, reflection, recreation, relaxation, fellowship, and fun in a breathtakingly beautiful setting. With pack animals to carry most gear, this trip provides maximum enjoyment with minimum discomfort for beginning and experienced backpackers of all ages.

Staffed by experienced leaders, a group of 15 women will hike to a basecamp at about 10,500 feet on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. Pack animals carry the food, cooking gear, and 10 pounds of personal gear per participant to the base camp; additional gear may be carried for an additional fee.

During the week, participants explore and enjoy a fascinating area of lakes, streams, meadows and towering peaks. Each woman may experience the wilderness in her own way--day hiking, fishing, painting, relaxing, reading, journaling, observing wildlife, watching billowing clouds or an approaching storm. There are also guided hikes. Breakfast and dinner are shared community meals. Trail lunches allow participants the flexibility to enjoy each day individually or in smaller groups. Evenings are community times to share experiences, sing, play, and dialogue together.

The group gathers at the trailhead campground on Thursday evening preceding the Saturday departure, and returns to the trailhead the following Friday afternoon. The first day is spent at the trailhead campground area with time for a day hike to help acclimate. The 6-mile hike to the basecamp begins early Saturday morning. Specific details and a list of things to bring will be provided upon registration.
