Camp Stevens' annual fall Baja Trek will return to a remote campsite on the Sea of Cortez, near Bahia de Los Angeles (about 400 miles south of the border). In this wilderness setting there are opportunities for fishing, kayaking, swimming, snorkeling and exploring the shore and inland desert. There is also plenty of opportunity for rest, relaxation and contemplation. With a short walk or paddle from the campsite the feeling is one of being alone at the beginning of the Earth, as the land is primarily barren rock and soil emerging from a brilliant blue sea and joining an equally brilliant sky. The sea is incredibly alive with many types of fish; wonderful birds, including Magnificent Frigates and Blue-footed Boobies; dolphins; sea turtles, and giant Finback Whales. Peter and Vicki Bergstrom will be the staff for the trek. Days are spent exploring and relaxing. In the evenings, we have informal group discussions, singing, and story telling. We'll be sleeping on air beds in tents right on the pebbly beach. There are no flush toilets or showers, but the sea, with its warm, sandfree water makes a wonderful bathtub! Cooking and cleanup are shared by all. We'll bring along all our water and food (except the fresh seafood we catch each day--last year this included clams and several kinds of fish). Fruit juices and other beverages are also provided. The group will meet at 7 am on Saturday, September 29th in Chula Vista (cars can be left there in the church parking lot during the trek). We will travel in the camp’s 15 passenger van and pick-up truck to Bahia de Los Angeles arriving about 10 pm. We will leave on Friday, October 5, and spend the night at Cielito Lindo near San Quintin (dinner and motel lodging at Cielito Lindo are not included in the trip fee). We’ll return to Chula Vista about 6 pm on Saturday, October 6. The cost is $495/person. Register online or send your name, address, phone and email along with a non-refundable deposit of $100.00 to: Camp Stevens, P.O. Box 2320, Julian, CA 92036.
