Eastern Sierra Family & Adult Base Camp Backpack Trip
July 21-28, 2012

Basecamp: Dingleberry Lake area, John Muir Wilderness, Bishop, CA

Here’s a great opportunity for both beginning and experienced backpackers to enjoy a spectacular basecamp at 10,500’!  The first day we hike in and set up camp–the rest of the week you can take long or short day hikes, or just sit by the lake and read, paint or fish.  Limited to 15 persons, age 6 and older, this trip is ideal for introducing young children to the joys of backpacking and wilderness camping. Pack animals carry the food, cooking gear, and 10 pounds of personal gear per participant to the base camp.

This excursion into the magnificent high country of the Eastern Sierra offers lots of fun, inspiration, renewal, fellowship and adventure. This base camp trip  is designed for avid hikers and walkers who want to explore one wild area in depth and return to the same wilderness camp each night, as well as for those who want to just relax in camp. With camp equipment and food carried by pack animals, a base camp is established beside a Sierra lake at about 10,500'. There participants spend the week exploring and enjoying the area.

They may day hike to nearby lakes, wildflower meadows, and spectacular vistas for fishing, swimming, photography and painting--or just relax in camp! There are also guided hikes. Breakfast and dinner are shared community meals. Trail lunches allow participants the flexibility to enjoy each day individually or in smaller groups. Evenings are community times to share experiences, sing, play, and dialogue together.

Designed for family groups and individuals 18 and older, this trip is ideal for introducing backpacking and wilderness camping to young children. Pack animals carry the food, cooking gear, and 10 pounds of personal gear per participant to the base camp; additional gear may be carried for an additional fee. Participants meet at the trailhead campground, spend the first night there, and begin the 6 mile hike to the base camp early Sunday morning! The group returns to the trailhead the following Saturday afternoon.
