CAMP STEVENS STAFF INTERNSHIP POSITIONResponsibilities include serving as a counselor and guide for groups of 6th-8th graders during resident outdoor education weeks, hosting weekend retreat groups, and sharing in camp maintenance and dishwashing. About half the time will be spent working with the outdoor education program and the other half hosting retreat groups and doing minor repairs, camp service projects, cooking, cleaning, and dishwashin. Summer program opportunities include working with two counselors and their campers in an adventure group This position is open beginning August 24, 2008 and continues through at least June 1, 2009. High school graduation is required and at least one year of college is preferred. Benefits include room and board, health insurance and a stipend of about $300/month, $400/month for college graduates. Additionally, you may qualify to earn an AmeriCorps Educational Award of up to $5000 depending on the length of stay and the number of qualified hours. Staff work an average of 5 days per week, except in the summer when we work 6 days per week.
Camp Stevens is owned and operated by the Episcopal Dioceses of Los Angeles and San Diego.
It is located on a wooded 260-acre site at 4200' in the Cuyamaca mountains. Fall and spring months are usually warm and sunny, winters are fairly mild, but we do get an occasional snow storm. We can accommodate up to 120 retreat/conference guests at a time; environmental education programs usually have classes of 30-50 students.
The staff community includes 3 families and 8-10 single persons, some of whom are volunteers from other countries. Single staff members share a small cabin with one or two others on the staff. Meals are provided in the dining hall whenever groups are here and food is provided for cooking in the staff cabins at other times. We are currently looking for eight staff interns to start in August/September of 2008.
