Dear Friends of Camp Stevens, Please help us take advantage of this opportunity to not only rebuild, but to improve and expand. Part of Camp Stevens’ mission is to model responsible stewardship of God’s creation. The September 2007 Angel Fire, that burned over 70 acres of forest and 15 buildings, has provided an opportunity to make our buildings far more energy efficient, and to model the use of sustainable materials as much as possible. Insurance payments will cover about $745,703 of the remaining building costs. Your investment in the Camp Stevens Rebuilding Fund is essential in providing the additional $844,750 needed to complete these projects! If you would like to discuss a particular gift, or sponsorship of a project, please give me a call at 760-765-0028. I would be delighted to share more of the vision of the new Camp Stevens with you! I hope you will be able to visit Camp Stevens soon and see for yourself how the 2007 forest fire has been such a renewing force. It has created openings in the forest that are now filled with new shrubs and wildflowers, as well as lots of deer and wild turkeys enjoying these new treats. Volunteers have cleared debris, built new trails, and planted more than 4,000 trees. The new Wolterstorff Lodge is even more handsome and comfortable than the Bishop’s Lodge, the new bath house and summer camp cabins are much larger and more fire-resistant than their predecessors, and the new Lax-Sadler Lodge and the Retreat Cottages will provide even more dramatic improvements!
