The Chapel
James Hubbell and his crew, along with some of the camp staff, and volunteers from churches, have completed three of the walls around the chapel, the altar, and the slate floor around the altar area. The chapel will have attractive lighting, a moveable shade covering and a small arbor/meditation chapel on one side, next to the statue of St. Francis.
The Chapel of the Transfiguration was rededicated during the Board of Visitors weekend in October 2009. It is now available for use by weekend groups, and all the elements of the design should be completed by Easter.
Renovation and Expansion of the Dining Hall
Fortunately, the Dining Hall was not damaged in the 2007 fire. It did, however, need some renovation, as it was built more than fifty years ago. The restrooms have been completely rebuilt and enlarged, and incorporated into the building with a new south entrance hallway. This phase was compeleted in summer 2010. Currently the dining space is being increased by expanding the building nine feet on the north side. Full insulation of the north and south walls, new air-lock entryways, and forced air furnaces will provide much greater comfort, as well as substantial savings on heating costs. A new doorway on the east side now opens to a dining patio with a dramatic view of Volcan Mountain beyond. This phase was begun in September 2010 and should be completed by December 2010.

Estimated cost: $312,440

Hermitage Cabins
The sites have been selected and the Camp Stevens Board has approved preliminary plans for three small cabins to replace St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s cabins. Two of these will be one-bedroom cabins with a kitchenette, and the third will be a studio. Together, the three cabins will cost about $328,000. We have received $272,269 in insurance payments for St. Mary’s and St. Paul’s cabins. Construction will begin once Lax-Sadler Lodge is completed.
