Staffed by experienced leaders, a group of 15 persons hikes to a base camp high on the eastern slope of the Sierra Nevada. Camp equipment and food are carried by pack animals; participants carry only their own personal gear. Ten pounds per person may be carried by the mules at no extra charge; additional gear may be carried for an additional fee. A base camp is established about 5 miles from the trailhead at about 10,500 feet. During the week, participants explore and enjoy the area. Each person may experience the wilderness in his or her own way--day hikes, fishing, painting, relaxing, reading, observing wildlife, watching billowing clouds or an approaching storm. Breakfast and dinner are shared community meals. Trail lunches allow participants the flexibility to enjoy each day individually or in smaller groups. Evenings are community times to share experiences, sing and worship together. |
