You are what you eat!

One of the things that we all have in common is that we need food to live. While it seems like a simple topic, it turns out that food production is a major contributor to pollution, can be a high energy consumer and a potential source for many problems. Our choices in the food we choose to eat can have a huge impact on the environment as well as our bodies.

In California, the number of gallons of water needed to produce one edible pound of:
Wheat - 25, Beef - 5214
Amount of Earth's land mass grazed by livestock: 1/2
Amount of U.S. Cropland producing fruits and vegetables: 2%
Amount of all diseases in the U.S. that are diet related: 68%

Tips:

Locally grown food is fresh and uses very little fuel for transportation.
Organically grown foods help to keep chemical fertilizers and pesticides from getting in you and the environment.
Locally grown organic products are the best of both!
